Belt Conveyor Systems, Top Benefits For Installing One
There are many places that enjoy the benefits of using belt conveyor systems. They provide mechanized movement of material in different applications such as farms, ware houses, freight handling companies, airports and industries that handle raw materials. The system is a mechanical device that is made of a continuous belt that moves materials from one point to another.
Belt conveyor systems make up one of the products made by Gough Engineering Company. You can find out more at www.goughengineering.com. The belts are made from a wide variety of materials to suit different applications. These vary from fabric, rubber, plastic, leather and even metal.
To allow the belt to have continuous motion, they are driven by a roll which is operated by power. This is installed underneath the belt and positioned at one end of the conveyor. As it moves, it forms a continuous loop. There are different types of supports, these depend on the type of material to be moved on the conveyor belt.
For heavy loads, it is supported at both sides of the roller. Metal slider pans are commonly used for light loads. This works by preventing frictional drag on the conveyor belt. Also depending on the application, constant or variable speed motors are used to provide power to the system. The speed is normally set or adjusted using gears.
Both large and small industries need an efficient method of moving goods from one point to another. Raw materials, parts and products can be transported as it is required. These machine are not only efficient, but they can handle large quantities of work at all times. This helps such applications save costs as opposed to using human labor to handle the such tasks.
Another benefit of using such systems is that they are flexible. They can be used in very many and different applications too. If a company has a production line, then investing in this type of machine is ideal. With regular and proper maintenance, they can provide effective and efficient service for a long durations.
They are useful to industries that involve often dangerous and labor intensive tasks. Mining companies can invest in an aggregate belt conveyor which can be used to transport heavy loads from one point to another. Such systems are also designed with impact beds which absorb the force off the loads thus making them function better.
There are industries that produce large volumes of products. In such cases, using human labor would negatively affect their production. Some applications use systems which are designed with side guards to prevent spillages or to keep products from tumbling over. This means that they can be customized to fit in different work environments.
Another use of belt conveyor systems is in the metal industries. They use systems with magnetized belts which help in transporting parts of metal and scrap metals. There are belts that are designed with steel belts, these come in handy in moving hot parts or products. Food industries and processing plants make use of sanitized belts to make their functions more efficient and cost effective.

Making a lathe variable speed?
I have a bench lathe where the speed is adjusted by moving belts on different sized pulleys. As this requires stopping the lathe and opening the access panel, I would like to be able to change the speed on the fly. I have seen variable speed control boxes that you plug a tool into then dial the speed up and down. They all state that they are not for use with slow start motors. How do I know if the motor I have is slow start? Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Since your MOTOR isn't gear drive, but belt drive, it seems to me it was manufactured at its highest level of strength, to support the various alterations via the belts. I have to assume it's an older model.
I'm not an electrician but I've used many lathes, often.
I suspect that a "Rheostat" would only put more strain on a motor not designed in that technology. I'll also assume that most or all lathes aren't instantly at 25,000 plus RPM's, as Routers aren't strictly either. To recreate a slow start motor is better left to those more qualified, or who understand the design and dynamics of the motor.
