Losing sleep over greenside bunker shots? Well Nick Dougherty has a cure.

The three-time European Tour winner ended those nightmares for Golf LIVE fans by prescribing them with a doughnut training drill at London cheap golf clubs over the weekend.

Dougherty interacted with the crowd at the back of the 18th as he fired a series of short, long and buried sand shots next to the pin using his number one bunker tip; taught to him by short-game expert Mark Roe.

"The key is to imagine a doughnut-like shape around the ball," said the Englishman. "In practice, draw a circle around the ball and hit the whole doughnut out of the bunker, maintaining good rhythm and good club head speed to make the doughnut disappear."

Dougherty continued his masterclass by explaining the importance of a lower stance rather than one that is too upright.

"The common fault I see is when someone stands up tall and expects to be able to get the club under the ball," added Dougherty.

"It might not look appealing, but there is a way out," said Dougherty. "Stay focused on a spot two to three inches behind the ball and swing steeply and abruptly with a full wrist hinge.

"Try to smack the sand hard but don't follow through too much because the ball will have lots of top spin. Stopping the swing a few feet after impact will help you hold the face open to clear the lip and stop the ball on the green."

Tips on doing two trills on one hand?

I'm learning Beethoven Sonata #32, op 111, Heinrich Schenker edition. In the second movement, page 610 starting at bar 126 through 127, it calls for two trills on one hand, b and a flat.

I've watched recordings of Claudio Arrau (but the camera angle had the left hand in the way) and Rudolf Serkin (camera panned away during that sequence) so I couldn't study their finger movements.

Anyone have a trick at strengthening the fingers for double trills on one hand? Any drills perhaps?

I've ehm-ed and ah-ed with myself for several hours before coming back to your Q, but faced with the choice of either leaving you in a fool's paradise or stating a few blunt facts, I have to opt for the latter.

No-one, without exception, can even dust the cover of op.111, never mind play it, until their technical control is simply *sovereign* in every respect. The musical problems of the severest of severe order are bad enough to have to deal with, without your physical weaponry being crippled from the outset.

There are no tips to be given. If you don't know how to trill in double-whatevers, this is not the way to learn that. Dirty laundry of that technical kind is what we solve in the years of technical study leading up to the moment when we timidly start to dare to think of cutting our teeth on a first reading of the Beethoven late sonatas, usually late twenties into early thirties, with a few hundred concert appearances under our belts.

Step back, treat op.111 as an admirable goal to strive for, and set about methodically building a soundly founded technique under the guidance of a good teacher, and with much hard labour and the passing of time, you will return to this point and be able to solve the issues inherent in op.111 as an independent artist at our instrument in your own right, and it will come to you quite naturally.

(As regards camera angles and 'watching' to 'learn', I could allow you to sit and watch me at close quarters, eight hours a day (there are limits ) for a week on end, trilling doubles lustily, and you'd be none the wiser though, come the time, likely mightily bored with the sound of trilled double-whatevers, as would I. It *doesn't work that way*.)

Regroup, rethink and then set out afresh. What you're asking here is based on folly.
