The Lathe Machine and Its Parts

Lathe equipment is utilized in order to smooth wood surfaces and create shapes. This is the machine used by craftsmen and lathe operators to craft and and customize wood products. Lathes can carve designs into wood and make tables,chair legs, cue sticks, baseball bats and any wood items into a cylindrical shape. Some lathes are designed for cutting other media like glass and metals. Spindle repair is frequently done using a lathe machine.

This is what you need for proper maintenance of the headstock

The lathe machine's headstock is responsible for anchoring and holding in place the upper end of the spindle. It also houses the motor that rotates the wood. The speed of the spindle's movement can be adjusted by using the pulleys and gears located at the back of the headstock. A high-tension spring, or chuck, holds the wood piece in position preventing it from falling or moving once the spindle begins to rotate.

The Tailstock?

There is a tailstock which holds the wood tight and this is part of the machine. The center can rotate along with the wood or can remain fixed in place. Within the rotating device or live center are bearings that permit movement.

Depending on your project and the cutting tool needed, you can choose from different attachments to your lathe machine. For removing the extra wood we use gauge tool. Use the skew chisel in order to make all the fine details much more pronounced. Round chisels and more slender spears are utilized to create intricate details. The rounded edges of finishing tools are ideal for buffing the wood because they prevent over-slicing of material.

Carriage

The lathe's cutting tool is steadied by the carriage, giving the craftsmen the freedom to do his work. The carriage is made up of 5 different components and include the compound rest, cross-slide, apron, tool rest and the saddle. These components work together to allow the cutting tool to be slid into place.

The spindle

Lathe spindles have 3 configurations. The main configurations consist of the threaded, cam-lock and the tapered. Attaching the chuck to a threaded model is complex, as the threaded model's configuration is old and the model doesn't have a taper Spindles of the cam-lock variety have cam studs at one end which slide into a ring with similar holes. After the chuck key is turned, the studs lock in place. The tapered spindle is narrow at the tip, the third configuration with a threaded collar and a built-in chuck key.

The invention of the lathe machine has made the creation of wood products easier, faster and less physically demanding for the craftsman. Lathe machines also allow craftsmen to work more accurately.

What are the labels on this lathe diagram?

Well, if your a mechanical engineer, I guess it'll only take about half a minute since it should be common sense to you guys . I'm trying to do this quiz and I can get everything right except this question and the worst thing is it doesn't tell you which part of the diagram you got wrong.
