What is the name of this movie about a ship that dives into an erupting volcano to go to the inner world?

The movie I'm thinking of is not "The Core" rather it is a tale about a scientist who believes there is an inner world beneath the surface of the earth and the way to get there is to create a ship that can dive into an erupting volcano and use some kind of laser or sonic based weapon (i cant remember which) to create a momentary opening into the inner world. But the scientist is lost at the start of the movie. His son follows in his footsteps and creates a bigger better version of the ship which can also fly that gets into the inner world. There the team find out that its like a labyrinth and the only way to escape is to find the pieces to some jig saw like puzzle which is like some mystical book or something.
