I have a compaq laptop and the battery life is only an hour when its not being charged.?

If i get a new battery(the thing that you can take out on the bottom of computer) will it give me more life as compared to my hour off the charger?

If your battery is at least two years old, then yes get a new battery.
Also, if you don't shut-down your computer every night then your battery life will get worse over a period of time. So make it a habit to shut-down your laptop every night.

So, yes I would get a new battery.
