For cordless drills, which type of battery do you recommend?

There is a major price difference between Ni-Cad and NiMH. I heard that Ni-Cad operate in a variety of temperatures, hold their charge longer, are cheaper, but they have the dreaded memory effect. NiMH don't have the memory effect but they are more expensive, lose their charge quickly but I hear they have a higher capacity.

I want to get the Panasonic EY6405FQKW 12-Volt Ni-Cad 3/8-Inch Cordless Drill/Driver Kit but I don't know if I should invest in Ni-Cad

BTW is this a good drill for general house repairs?

The difference in price is more than just the battery in most cases. Most manufacturers that offer both types of battery usually include the Ni-MH batteries with their new or higher end drills.

The drill you selected is EXCELLENT for home use. Several of the contractors I've worked for have used those, although most have upgraded to the 15.6V drills for the longer run time and higher torque. You will be able to do anything you need to do with it, and at the price it's a steal. Panasonic has come a long way with battery tecnology. When they first came out, 12V batteries were usually dead within 6 months. I've seen some on jobsites now that are 3 years old, and that's with almost constant use.

BTW, the Li-ion battery powered tools are great, but they're very expensive, and I haven't seen any durability info yet. Hope this helps.
