Three Practical Visualization Tools
We all know visualization works. There are many stories about people who’ve accomplished great things who, years before their success, visualized the exact picture of what they were going to create.
It is really that simple. What’s not so simple is how to consciously put this into practice every day in order to see results.
Several years ago, I sought out master teachers from which to learn visualization principles. When I did so, everything changed. I learned the following three practical visualization tools and immediately began to create things quickly and easily. I hope they will help you as much as they helped me.
Practical Visualization Tool #1: Choose Something To Visualize that You’re Truly Inspired By – This can take some doing. Most of aren’t very connected with things that inspire us. We’re too busy making it through the day to spend time on what inspires us. Fortunately, we are irresistibly drawn toward what inspires us. If you’re not feeling inspired about anything at all, schedule inspiration time into your day. Do anything that inspires you. I used to love to go to the Chicago Museum of Modern Art to look at the Caulder mobiles and sculptures. There is something in his art that I dearly love. When I’m not in Chicago, I look up his website and peruse his works.
It is that easy. Gradually, you will begin to get in touch with something inside of you as you do this practice. Don’t limit what you do. You’ll eventually get more focused on your passion. When you reach this point, it is time to create your powerful vision. Either write it down, or describe it in detail to someone. This helps you to have the discipline to make something really clear. I find that in conversation with someone, I’ll add a missing, but vital piece to the puzzle.
Practical Visualization Tool #2: Practice Seeing Your Vision – Once we have our vision, it is time to practice it. I do this every night when I go to bed. I concentrate on my vision until I go to sleep. After I began practicing my vision daily, I naturally added more details. Soon, I could immerse myself in the experience. I could feel what it was like to do the public speaking that I was longing to do. I could sense the moment of nervousness that I felt as I began, and the exhilaration of really connecting with my audience. The vision really flowered as a practiced it every day. I often found myself thinking about it other times of the day as well. Soon, I had a speaking career that was just like my vision.
Practical Visualization Tool #3: Take the First Step – After you’ve practiced your vision, you’ll know when you’re ready to do step #3. In fact, you might just do it without thinking about it before hand. Ask yourself, “What is the first step that I need to take to put my vision into action?” And trust what you have to say. When I took on living the life of my dreams, I knew that I had to clean out my house first. In retrospect, that was a smart thing for me to do. As a stay-at-home mom, I needed to add a lot to my schedule in order to do this and I needed to have my household cleaning and management be a great deal easier to accomplish everyday. After I’d cleared out my house, it took very little effort to maintain a great living space for my family, giving me peace of mind and more energy with which to work on my speaking and writing projects.
Sometimes, we’re ready to take direct action. When that happens, it’s best to take that action immediately. Don’t let that one simple action be what stands in between you and living a fabulous life. I find that it’s best to tell someone else about needing to take my action if I’m resisting taking it. That way, I’m accountable to someone else and I’m more likely to take the action if they’re expecting me to as well.
