Anyone familiar with Heather Gillman case?

Afternoon folks.

Was wondering if any of you are familiar with the Heather Gillman case that was ruled upon earlier this week. For those who are, I would enjoy hearing your opinions.

For those who aren't do a yahoo/google search to read up a bit.

It relates to suppression of a student's right to express her support for "gay rights" in a school setting. It's a very interesting story, i thought, and would enjoy hearing what the gallery here thinks.

It's a common type of case that's happened all over the USA and Europe as well.

Depending on the area of the country you are in, coming out for gay rights can be a form of social suicide like in the Babble Belt states where ignorance is high and tolerance is low.

But even in California, one state you wouldn't expect gays and lesbians to have much crap in school, and you'll find hundreds of discrimination lawsuits filed by gays.

I used to be a researcher for the ACLU and have gathered evidence that helped some gays, lesbians and transgendered folks win, but we didn't win them all which is nothing but wishful thinking.

Some cases we brought to court, should never have been an issue to start with like bring a same sex date to a prom. That anybody could even give a shit causes a frown on my face.

Then there was the case where a MTF transgendered high school student wanted to wear women's clothing appropriate for his gender identity and not forced to wear boy's clothing.

We WON. But the harrassed TG person dropped out in the 10th grade and never completed. The victory became a defeat as it brought TOO much attention to that person and despite school policies, no law will stop those who want to hurt those they hate.

There are a zillion anti-racial and hate crimes laws on the books, and still racist gangs still attack gays, blacks, Jews.
Laws are not the CURE-ALL, end-all and be all. You can have great laws and still a cruel unjust and corrupt society.

Government and more and more laws are NOT the solution.
The solution is EDUCATION, the slow but sure evolution of consciousness from a barbaric society to an enlightened society and in an enlightened society based on reason, there'd be no need for court cases of these types. There'd be no debate on gay marriage as the average person wouldn't even care and take a live and let live attitude. Nobody would bat an eyelash at a same sex or interacial couple.

We won a case that did not get much media attention in Alabama for a black guy to take a white girl to the prom. That case SHOULD not have even been necessary in this day and age!
